Bolivia signs ‘Memorandum of Understanding’ with Flanders

  • June 11, 2015

On Thursday June 11th, Flanders and Bolivia signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) about water-related affairs, in Brussels.

The MoU aims for a technical and scientific cooperation between both authorities. The Hydraulics Laboratory of the Government of Flanders (situated in Borgerhout) will share know-how  about water-related affairs with Bolivia. Bolivia needs this know-how to better manage its water resources. In addition, the MoU also contributes to better management of the water resources of Bolivia.

The MoU was signed by Ben Weyts, Flemish Minister for Mobility, Public Works, Vlaamse Rand, Tourism and Animal Welfare and David Choquehuanca Céspedes, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Plurinational State of Bolivia. The Bolivian delegation attended the 2nd European - Latin American and Caribbean summit in Brussels. However, the Bolivian minister puts this MoU with Flanders on the same level as the summit itself.

Bolivia is a land-locked country in the Andes Mountains of South America. Due to its specific location on high altitude, the country often suffers from floods. For this reason the MoU and the related cooperation, mainly has to be seen in the light of the flood problems.
