Cooperation with Québec on maritime research

  • September 24, 2015

on September the 23th, in the presence of Minister Muyters and the Minister of Transport and Maritime Strategy of Québec, Jean D'Amour, the Flanders Marine Institute (VLIZ) and l'Institut des Sciences de la Mer de Rimouski, Québec (ISMER) signed a Memorandum of Understanding. Both research institutions will cooperate in the field of maritime research. Research projects, training programs or joint funding applications can be part of this collaboration. Minister Muyters is very satisfied: "We need to invest together in strategic research. VLIZ and ISMER understood this very well. "

Minister D'Amour accompanied a large delegation from Quebec during a four-day visit to our country. The delegation learned more about the Flemish logistics sector with particular attention to the port facilities. Besides meetings with Minister Muyters and Minister Weyts, there were extended visits to the ports of Antwerp, Zeebrugge and Ghent on the programme. Also much attention for education – with visits to the Centre for Maritime and Air Transport at the University of Antwerp and the University of Ghent - and for research (Institute for Agricultural and Fisheries Research).
