Who is eligible?
You must have/be:
- Secured a work placement with a multilateral organisation
- Younger than 35 years at the starting date of your work placement
- Final diploma, obtained at an institution of secondary or higher education, financed or subsidised by the Flemish Community. You can find the list of institutions of higher education in artikel II.1 van de Codex Hoger Onderwijs van 11 oktober 2013 (in Dutch)
Duration of the internship
The work placement lasts for at least 2 and at most 6 months and takes place with an approved multilateral organisation.
During your internship period, do you get an offer to extend it? Great! But then keep in mind that the minimum duration of this extension should be 2 months (and should not exceed the maximum of 6 months). The maximum duration of the internship can be extended to nine months at the explicit request of the multilateral organisation in question and provided that the internship is related to a project or programme funded by the Flemish Community or the Flemish Region.
What is a multilateral organisation?
A multilateral organisation is always established on the basis of a treaty or agreement accepted and signed by its members. A multilateral organisation has legal personality, is governed by the rules of international law and can conclude agreements with states or other organisations. Think of the United Nations, the World Trade Organisation or the European Union.
Not all multilateral organisations qualify. This is the full list of multilateral organisations eligible for the Flanders Trainee Programme. You can also visit branches of these organisations in the areas of operation of the Diplomatic Representations of Flanders. You can find those on the main page of this site.
