Project: Emergency Safeguarding of the Site of Palmyra: Implementation of the World Heritage Committee Decisions
Beneficiary: UNESCO
Amount: 100.000 USD
Duration: 2016 – 2018
Due to the armed conflict in Syria, many World Heritage sites were damaged, including the well-known site of Palmyra. Since the site was accessible again in 2016, Unesco dispatched a rapid assessment mission to assess the damages and identify emergency measures.
This project’s specific objective is to contribute to the implementation of those measures for the safeguarding of the site – as included in the decisions of the World Heritage Committee – and plan future actions, through a multidisciplinary technical mission at the site.
