Inauguration "Father Damien Way" in New York

The Father Damien Way in New York was inaugurated on May 11 by Minister-president Geert Bourgeois and the New York Archbishop Dolan. The former 33nd Street in Manhattan is close to 3 major hospitals including the Bellevue Hospital Center, specializing in the treatment of leprosy, and close to the chapel of the Fathers of the Sacred Hearts, the congregation of father Damien.

The ceremony was attended by representatives of the American church authorities, State of Hawaii and New York City, Belgian diplomats and several leprosy patients.

Minister-president Bourgeois emphasized in his speech the importance of keeping the memory of Father Damien alive. "He is an inspiration and example for all."
