      Malta

Malta, strategically located in the Mediterranean Sea, has known many strange rulers over the course of its history. In 1964, it became independent of the United Kingdom. Since 1 May 2004, it is the smallest Member State of the European Union, and there are therefore many links between Flemish ministers or officials representing Belgium in the Council or Council working groups and their Maltese counterparts.
