Minister Gatz and NRW vice-minister-president Löhrmann celebrate Flanders Day
On 30 June Minister of Culture Sven Gatz and vice-Minister-president of North Rhine Westphalia, Sylvia Löhrmann, attended the concert "Distortion, a Hymn to Liberty," a musical work of composers Dirk Brosse, Jef Neve and Frederik Sioen, in Dusseldorf. The Flemish representatives in Germany organized this concert together for Flanders Day and the 25th anniversary of the Flanders - North Rhine-Westphalia cooperation, with huge support of the Project team “the Great War” and KBC Bank NV Niederlassung Deutschland.
For the Government of Flanders, North Rhine-Westphalia is a top priority. The German Länder is an economic top region and represents a third of the Flemish export to Germany. The political and cultural ties with Flanders are very strong. Reason enough to celebrate Flanders Day in the capital Dusseldorf.
"Distortion", or the peace anthem, was composed two years ago at the request of the Government of Flanders. Minister Gatz: “Three very diverse composers joined forces to create a musical composition for the commemoration of the First world War. Jef Neve, Frederik Sioen and Dirk Brossé, three world class artists, gave their own personal interpretation of the theme ‘peace and liberty’. It is a work of international standards, and the performance in Germany is highly symbolical.”
Flanders Day is Dusseldorf was organized by:
• Koen Vanswijgenhoven, Director VLAM in Germany
• Katharina Desmet, Economic Representative Cologne Flanders Investment & Trade
• Koen Haverbeke, General Representative of the Government of Flanders in Germany
• Lothar Peters, Director Toerisme Vlaanderen in Germany
