Minister Homans to Danish conference against radicalisation
On November 19th Minister Homans met with Mayor Jacob Bundsgaard from the Danish City of Aarhus. The minister is in Denmark to attend the two-day conference entitled "Building Resilience to Radicalisation and Violent Extremism" organized by the City of Aarhus.
Mayor Bundsgaard and Minister Homans discussed the Aarhus model. This model focuses on prevention of radicalization, within a clearly defined framework. A combination of dialogue and a firm hand, as Mayor Bundsgaard discribed it. Just like the Flemish Action Plan against radicalization, the model is based on a holistic approach involving multiple government agencies working together.
300 international experts and policy makers from more than 30 countries participate in the two-day conference "Building Resilience to Radicalisation and Violent Extremism" (19 - 20/11). The conference is an opportunity for Minister Homans to discuss the issue of radicalization and extremism with these international experts and to exchange experiences. The conference focuses primarily on prevention in the fight against radicalization which falls in the domain of the competences of the Government of Flanders.
