From 3 to 8 May 2021, the coalition of NGOs, unions, movements and various solidarity groups in Flanders, 11.11.11, organized the Week of the 4th Pillar*. During this week volunteers could attend a whole range of online activities and discover new ideas for a strong and modern 4th Pillar movement after the corona crisis.
Minister-president Jan Jambon opened the plenary session on Saturday 8 May, the Day of the 4th Pillar.
In his opening speech, minister-president Jambon praised the 4th Pillar organizations in Flanders for their resilience and creativity when facing the corona crisis in the past year. He also emphasized the importance of the 4th Pillar point of support (4de Pijlersteunpunt) as an indispensable component in the landscape of development cooperation in Flanders. The Government of Flanders prides itself on its continued partnership with this point of support and as such all 4th Pillar organizations in Flanders.
* Citizens, companies, associations and schools that set up projects to support development cooperation are referred to as the 4th Pillar.
