Minister-President Peeters visits Volvo Car Group’s headquarters in Sweden
During his visit to the Volvo Car Group in Sweden on 12 April, Flemish minister-president Peeters met with CEO Håkan Samuelsson and various executives. The aim of this visit was to gain an update on the current situation and challenges for Volvo Car Group.
Minister-president Peeters emphasised the role that Volvo Car Ghent plays as “lead plant” for Volvo Car Group in Flanders, and stressed the necessity of maintaining the production volume and the allocation of future models to the plant in Ghent.
The Flemish Head of Government made use of the occasion to emphasise the fact that, with the New Industrial Policy, the Government of Flanders offers a framework for competitive and future-oriented industry, in which the construction of vehicles most definitely has a place. A car assembly factory such as Volvo Car Ghent is therefore especially important to the Flemish industrial fabric, both in terms of employment and for the relations between vehicle companies and suppliers.
Minister-president Peeters said: “To date there is no particular reason to worry about Volvo Car Ghent. However, that does not mean that we do not have to be on constant alert. This is why I’m making this visit to the Volvo Car Group headquarters in Sweden, where I will have a meeting with the CEO and various executives.”
