On November 12, Minister Weyts was in São Paulo to meet with Brazilian Harbor Minister, Helder Barbalho. Minister Weyts is currently in South-America for an economic mission which is dedicated to Flemish ports. This is the first joint mission for the harbors of Antwerp, Zeebrugge, Ghent and Ostend to promote the ports in the area which makes the region an important access point to Europe.

After the meeting, Minister Weyts and Minister Barbalho together opened the APEC seminar “Port Marketing”. APEC, which is short for the Antwerp/Flanders Port Training Center, is part of the Port of Antwerp and offers harbor training to professionals from some seventy countries. A couple of years ago, APEC, a world leader in these types of trainings, also started organizing seminars in Brazil and plans to host even more there in the future.

After the visit to Brazil, the Flemish delegation will travel to Chile on November 15.
