On 29 November, the new cooperation programme Flanders - Estonia for the period 2019 – 2022 was signed. The programme was signed by Koen Jongbloet, Head of the Foreign Affairs division and Marika Linntam, Director General for European Affairs at the Estonian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Flanders and Estonia will further cooperate in the field of economic development and trade, circular economy, environment and agriculture, water management, mobility, R&D, innovation, youth and culture.
Flanders is particulary interested in cooperation with Estonia in the fields of art, culture and e-governance. The Baltic country is one of the strongest digital players in Europe and has emerged as a global leader in e-government operations. For example, since 2005 Estonians have been able to vote digitally in elections anywhere in the world.
Both delegations also exchanged information on their respective policies. For Flanders, this included the vision 2050 and the macro-strategic cooperation for the North Sea. Estonia 2035 and the European Strategy for the Baltic Sea were also discussed.
