Secretary-General Julie Bynens and the Czech ambassador Pavel Klucký signed a new work program between Flanders and the Czech Republic for 2019 - 2021 in Brussels on 12 December.
Part of this work program is the collaboration between the universities of Ghent and Brno on plant-based synthetic biology. This is a joint venture between the Flemish Institute for Biotechnology (VIB) and Ceitec MU. They want to achieve a more sustainable agriculture through academic cooperation and joint infrastructure. They also seek European support.
The work program includes a whole series of other points. The Czech Republic and Flanders are two relatively small language areas and have found each other in this area. The existing cooperation in the field of Dutch Studies will be continued, as will the broad, cultural cooperation. New is the collaboration between the Holocaust Museum in Mechelen, Kazerne Dossin, and the Bubny memorial of Silence in Prague.
Attention is also paid to animal protection and in particular to the trade in dog puppies. Both partners wish to increase their efforts in this regard and keep each other informed.
This is the sixth work program since the Cooperation Agreement between Flanders and the Czech Republic was signed in 2002.
