On 28 October the first Flemish-Dutch Science and Innovation Day - S&I Day - was organized at the Dutch Embassy in Brussels. The initiative for this joint S&I day was taken on November 5th, 2018 during the summit between the Flemish and Dutch Ministers-presidents.
During the opening debate, both Director General Focco Vijselaar (Business and Innovation) of the Dutch Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate and Secretary General Johan Hanssens of the Flemish Department for Economy, Science and Innovation, recognised lots of similarities in the socio-economic challenges Flanders and the Netherlands faces, as well as in the believe that science and technology are part of the solution. Therefore a strong focus on innovation and research is necessary. And also cross border collaboration and reinforcement.
The goal of the first S&I Day was to bring together the triple helix stakeholders on both sides of the border around the themes Life Sciences, Healthcare, Artificial Intelligence, Industry 4.0 and Sustainable Energy.
