Flanders, Wallonia and France sign Lys Mitoyenne Treaty

  • November 19, 2018

On 19 November Minister-president Geert Bourgeois, Walloon Minister-President Willy Borsus and French Minister for European Affairs Nathalie Loiseau, signed the Lys Mitoyenne Treaty between France, Wallonia and Flanders. This treaty allows the Lys Mitoyenne to be adapted for large inland shipping.

This treaty, which allows the adaptation of the Lys Mitoyenne between Deûlémont and Menen, is an important step in the realization of the Seine-Scheldt connection: a modern and multimodal waterway between two of Europe's most important industrial regions. The Seine-Scheldt connection is part of the TEN-T corridor North Sea-Mediterranean, and receives EU co-funding.

The treaty was signed in Brussels, on the margins of the state visit of French President Macron to our country.
