On the 1st of January, Gaëtan Poelman started as General Representative of the Government of Flanders in Paris. Representative Poelman will not only maintain close bilateral ties with France on economic level, but he will also strengthen cultural, linguistic and scientific ties.
Gaëtan Poelman started his career within the Government of Flanders in 2006 as cultural attaché to the General Representation of the Government of Flanders at the Permanent Representation of Belgium at the European Union. Afterwards, he worked at the Department of Culture, Youth, Sports and Media for eight years as Director International Relations. Before he started at the Department of Foreign Affairs, he was head of the Strategic Advisory Council for Culture, Youth, Sports and Media.
Poelman takes over the post from Filip D’havé who moves to the Netherlands, where he’ll be taking over as General Representative from Axel Buyse. Buyse returns to the General Representation to the European Union in Brussels. The other Representatives will make their rotation in the summer of 2019.
