Humanitarian aid for Albania after earthquake

  • February 17, 2020

On 17 February, the EU organised a major donors' conference for the reconstruction of the earthquake-affected regions of Albania. At the end of 2019, the Government of Flanders already released 175,000 euros for this humanitarian disaster.

Two major earthquakes on 26 November 2019 caused many casualties, including 50 deaths. Around the cities of Tirana and Dulles more than 10,000 people were affected. The International Federation of Red Cross & Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) launched an emergency appeal to which the Government of Flanders responded.

In line with the Flemish humanitarian action policy, this contribution is partly to provide urgent assistance and partly to support reconstruction and disaster preparedness.
