After a marathon negotiation, the Heads of State and Government reached an agreement on the European Multiannual Financial Framework and the European Recovery Plan.
Many parts of this agreement will have concrete consequences for Flanders in the coming years, such as investments in research and innovation, infrastructure works, digitization, climate transition, human capital, cross-border cooperation, agriculture, fisheries, education, youth, sport, and culture.
The Government of Flanders is particularly pleased with the brexit fund of 5 billion euros. At Flanders' request, this instrument has been included in the agreement in order to tackle the negative consequences of the brexit.
Minister-President Jambon: "Glad that, despite the major contradictions, an agreement has been reached on the European budget and the Corona Recovery Plan. Solidarity must go hand in hand with responsibility. This is how we get out of the crisis. At our request, a brexit reserve of 5 billion has been included."
