Project: Offering technical support to Marine World Heritage sites with special attention for capacity building and collaboration between African sites. Beneficiary: Unesco Amount: 149.330 USD Duration: 2019 – 2020 Dit project zorgt voor een verdere ondersteuning van Unesco’ programma voor de bescherming van marien Werelderfgoed, dat wordt geleid door de Vlaamse Fanny Douvere. Het specifieke doel van dit project is om de samenwerking tussen Afrikaanse mariene sites te bevorderen om zo ook hun capaciteiten te versterken, en om technische ondersteuning te bieden aan mariene sites.

Project: Organisation of a training in Mozambique for the capacity building in Africa on underwater cultural heritage Beneficiary: Unesco Amount: 92.650 USD Duration: 2019 – 2020 This project aims to improve the protection and management of maritime and underwater cultural heritage in the African countries, within the framework of the principles and standards of the UNESCO 2001 Convention on the Protection of the Underwater Cultural Heritage. A regional training course is planned on legal protection and practical management of underwater cultural heritage.

Project: Operating grant Beneficiary: PEN Vlaanderen Budget: 4.082,20 euros Period: 2019 PEN Vlaanderen actively defends fellow-writers around the world, both through direct and indirect support.  PEN Flanders uses culture as a carrier of values in the international relations of Flanders and the European Union. Cultural diplomacy, based on a framework that integrates values, can help steer the process towards more democracy.

Project: preliminary phase of International Architecture Biennale Rotterdam (IABR) Beneficiary: Architecture Workroom Brussels (AWB) Budget: 200.000 euros Period: 1/08/2018 - 31/12/2018 Flemish architect Joachim Declerck (AWB), Flemish property developer Leo van Broeck and Dutch Chief Government Architect Floris Alkemade, have been appointed as curator for the 2018 and 2020 editions of the  International Architecture Biennale in Rotterdam (IABR).  Both editions are entirely dedicated to the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations and the Paris Agreement on climate. 

Project: School Prevention Work on internet safety in cooperation with Child Focus Beneficiary: Kék Vonal Child Crisis Foundation Budget: 3.360 euros Period: 2018 - 2019 The Kék Vonal Child Crisis Foundation is a Hungarian NGO. Since 1993, Kék Vonal has been running a helpline for children and young people. In addition, Kék Vonal also visits children in school.

Project: Exhibition: works of Léon Spilliaert Budget: 100.000 euros Period: 2020 In 2020, the Royal Academy of Arts will present a solo exhibition of the internationally acclaimed Flemish painter and graphic artist Léon Spilliaert. The grant to the Royal Academy of Arts aims to increase the awareness and visibility of the Flemish arts and culture on an international level. The exhibition about Spilliaert is the result of close cooperation after the Ensor exhibition at the Royal Academy in 2016.

Project: Participation of Flemish ensembles performing at the FeMAP festival 2019 in Catalonia Beneficiary: Kunstenpunt Budget: 70.000 euros Period: 2019 Pyrenees Early Musical Festival (  FeMAP ) invites Flanders as host for its edition of 2019. Flanders wants to play a connecting role with Catalonia in order to further stimulate and anchor the existing cooperation. That is why both partners have decided to spread the cooperation with Flanders over the festival editions of 2019 and 2020.

Project: Vulnerable families in Urban Aleppo recover from the conflict and rebuild their lives and communities Beneficiary: Caritas International Belgium Budget: 100.000 euros Period: 2018 - 2019 The project of Caritas International Belgium aims to support vulnerable people in Aleppo and supports them in their search for sustainable solutions.  Caritas International comes to the aid of victims of violence, natural catastrophes, and poverty whether in their own country or on the run through our local, national, and international network.

Project: Tour in South Africa by Youth Choir Waelrant and Show Choir Rise Up and participation in World Choir Games in South Africa Beneficiary: Koor & Stem Budget: 12.500 euros Duration: 2018 - 2019 Koor & Stem supports choirs and singers across Flanders. Youth Choir Waelrant and Show Choir Rise Up will tour through South Africa in 2018, performing in different cities. Both Youth Choir Waelrant and Show Choir Rise Up will promote Flanders as host for the 11th World Choir Games in 2020.

Project: the performance of dance company Shell Shock in Paris  Beneficiary: Eastman  Budget: 25.000 euros Period: 2018 - 2019 On the 10th and 11th of November 2018, Eastman Dance Company (choreographer Sidi Larbi Cheraoui) will perform in Paris as part of the commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the WOI Armistice. The performances of Shell Shock in Paris offer a good opportunity for Flanders to be present at the closing event of the French President Macron in the context of the commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the Great War.

Project: Visitor programme of South African and Zimbabwean curators in Flanders and the Netherlands Beneficiary Kunstenpunt Budget: 5.900 euro Duration: 2019 Kunstensteunpunt and the Mondriaan Fund are taking part in an orientation trip to South Africa from 2 to 16 September 2018. The trip will be organised by the Mondriaan Fund for professional curators in the contemporary visual arts.

Project: Operating grant Beneficiary: De Vlaamse Universiteiten en Hogescholen Raad (VLUHR) Budget: 100.000 euros Period: 2019 With this grant, the Department of Foreign Affairs aims to achieve the objectives of academic diplomacy by continuing to actively promote higher education and research in Flanders by convincing foreign students, researchers and policymakers of its quality. The participation of knowledge institutions in ministerial missions is an important instrument for this purpose.

Project: Flanders ukudansa eMzansi in South-Africa (Oudtshoorn, Cape Town and Johannesburg)  Beneficiary: les ballets C de la B Budget: 189.000 euros Period: 2019 With this project, three well-established Flemish dance companies want to present a series of prominent productions in South Africa (Oudtshoorn, Cape Town and Johannesburg) in 2019. It concerns the production 'Rule of Three' by Jan Martens, the boxing project '(B)' by Koen Augustijnen and 'Requiem pour L.'.

Project: The 'Great War in Music, Word and Image' Beneficiary: VOS Vlaamse Vredesvereniging Budget: 6.999 euros Period: 2018 - 2019 Together with its partners, VOS organises several concerts to commemorate the Great War. With two performances in the United States, VOS creates a unique opportunity to highlight the Flemish spirit of peace and the bond between the US and Flanders. The 'Great War in Music, Word and Image' will be performed in 2018 in symbolic places in Flanders (Ypres on 12 July, Winch on 30 September and Sint-Niklaar on 13 October).

Project: Exhibition What Could Have Been Beneficiary: Flanders Architecture Institute Amount: 13.500 euro Duration: 2018 - 2019 In 2019, the Flemish Architecture Institute plans to continue and deepen the exhibition Maatwerk Massaarbeit Architecktur aus Flandern un den Niederlanden.

Project: Action plan 2019 Beneficiary: Flemings in the World (VIW) Budget: 264.000 euros Duration: 2019 - 2020 Flemish people in the World Foundation (VIW) assists Flemish emigrants and expats whether they have international aspirations, or are already abroad.

Project: Operating grant 2019 Beneficiary: Antwerp/Flanders Port Training Center (APEC) Budget: 297.500 euros Period: 2019 APEC-Antwerp/Flanders Port Training Centre vzw is an international training institute for port and maritime matters that focuses on the transfer of knowledge via standard seminars, tailor-made courses, study visits and lectures abroad.  For the working year 2019, the Government grants 297,500 euros to APEC vzw, as a compensation for the distribution of 85 grants to partner countries for the 13 standard seminars that will take place in 2019.

Project: 10 partial sholarships for academic year 2019 - 2020 C-MAT Beneficiary: Centre for Maritime and Air Transport Management Budget: 110.000 euros Period: 2019 - 2020 At the beginning of 1996, the Institute of Transport and Maritime Management Antwerp (ITMMA) was established as an autonomous institute within the structures of the University of Antwerp.

Project: Strenghening the climate resilience of vulnerable communities in Malawi Beneficiary : UNDP Duration: 2019 - 2022 Budget: 2.500.000 euro The general objective of the project is to strengthen the capacity of district councils to respond to climate change in the districts of Mzimba and Kusunga. The project works on three specific objectives: improving the capacity of district councils to integrate climate adaptation into the district development plans; developing an integrated protection of water extraction areas; reducing the exposure of communities to climate-related risks an

Project: Exhibition 'Stigma and psychiatry' in Japan Beneficiary: Museum Dr Guislain Amount: 90.000 euro Duration: 2019 - 2020 This Flemish-Dutch project offers the possibility to indirectly address a social problem (stigmatisation of mentally ill people) with a cultural project. This is a social problem of which the Japanese health care system is very aware, but for which one is looking towards Western Europe to make this theme a subject of discussion. Europe and Flanders have already coma a long way in making mental illness a subject of discussion.
