Grant emergency aid Ebola crisis in West Africa 2014
Beneficiary: UNICEF Belgium Duration: 2014-2015 Budget: 200.000 euro Fighting the Ebola virus UNICEF developed strategy and launched an appeal for 200 million dollars to continue interventions in affected communities until at least the end of February 2015. The priority of UNICEF is to control the further spread of the virus and to meet the most basic needs of the affected communities. At the same time, UNICEF wants to restore basic health care to ensure that does not exacerbate the situation does not exacerbate.

Renewal cooperation agreement UNAIDS, 2015-2018
Duration: 2015-2018 Budget: 3.000.000 euro In 2000, the Government of Flanders approved its first project for UNAIDS. The Government acknowledged the importance of the global fight against HIV and AIDS. With this renewed cooperation agreement, the Flemish Government wants to promote access to sexual and reproductive health and rights at the global level and especially in the partner countries.

Project: the construction of additional accommodation for health care personnel in Tete province Beneficiary: BTC (Belgian Technical Cooperation) Duration: 2013-2014 Budget: 1.791.895 euro In view of improving personnel policies in the health care sector, the Government of Flanders has decided to make a contribution to the construction of additional accommodation for health care personnel in Tete province. In February 2013 the authorities of the Mozambican Tete province were requesting support for their personnel policy.

Climate change management (UNDP)
beneficiary: United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Duration: 2013 Budget: 1.250.000 euro 98% of the victims of climatic disasters live in the developing countries. These countries depend on agriculture and natural resources for their income, which makes them extremely vulnerable in the face of climate change. Poor countries are also less adaptable to this new reality. The Government of Flanders invests 1.25 million euros in climate change management in Malawi. The objective is to allow developing countries to make a fast start on implementing adaptation and mitigation activities.

Project: a financial expert for MISAU to improve the dialogue between the Ministry and the donors Beneficiary: The Belgian Technical Cooperation (BTC) Duration: 2013-2014 Budget: 358.323 euro The Government of Flanders decided to make a contribution towards BTC (Belgian Technical Cooperation) for the project “Focussed contribution to the health system strengthening of Mozambique”. With this support, a financial expert will be able to assist the working group administration and finances (GTAF) within the SWAp in the health sector.

Support to the ASWAp-SP through the Multi Donor Trust Fund (Malawi 2012)
Project: strengthening the impact of the investments on food security and sustainable growth in the agricultural sector Duration: 2012 Budget: 5.300.000 euro beneficiary: Multi Donor Trust Fund (MDTF) In mutual agreement with the donor community, Malawi is taking steps towards a form of sectorial budget support within the agricultural sector. This so called ASWAp is not operational yet, but in anticipation, the ASWAp-Support Programme has already been started up. The financing of this ASWAp-SP goes through a Multi Donor Trust Fund (MDTF) which is managed by the World Bank.

Based on this, ILO works, in cooperation with the government of the country in question, on a tailored global strategy. Over the past 10 years, the Mozambican economy has been characterized by a significant growth.

Project: strengthening the Mozambican technical education by supporting the building of instruction rooms Beneficiary: Society of the Salesians of Don Bosco Duration: 2009-2011 Budget: 1.800.000 euro At the end of the Mozambican civil war, the Salesian society, among others, devoted itself to help develop the country’s technical education. In 1994, a Salesian network for professional education was created (“Rede Salesiana de Formaçao Profissional em Moçambique”).

Project: increasing the number of available health personnel in Mozambique Beneficiary: WHO Duration: 2005-2011 Budget: 587.600 euro The Human Resources for Health programme (HRH) of the World Health Organisation (WHO) aims to reinforce the Mozambican Ministry of Health. By doing so, the WHO gears towards increasing the number of available health personnel, in order to offer better health services to the community. With its 0.03 doctors and 0.21 nurses per 1000 people, Mozambique has one of the lowest densities of health workers in Africa.
