Project: international commemoration of the Third Battle of Ypres Beneficiary: Society Passchendaele Society vzw Amount: 140.000 euro Duration: July 2017 - November 2017 The project is based on the international commemoration of some dramatic historical moments of the Third Battle of Ypres on the particular day (exactly 100 years after the fact), knowingly places (Tyne Cot Cemetery, Crest Farm, Gravenstafel, Belle vue , Polygon Wood, Frezenberg ...) and (representatives of) countries, Britain, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, France and Germany.

Statue of John McCrae unveiled in Ottawa (2015)
Project: Statue of John McCrae unveiled in Ottawa Beneficiary: Royal Canadian Artillery Heritage Trust Amount: 50.000 CAD Duration: May 2015 On Sunday, May 3rd in the Canadian capital Ottawa a statue was unveiled to commemorate the Canadian military physician John McCrae (1872-1918). John McCrae fought during World War I as a volunteer with the Allied Forces and was stationed near Ypres. There he wrote in early May 1915 the famous poem "In Flanders Fields" in memory of his fallen friend, former student and fellow soldier Lt. Alex Helmer.

Project: Emergency aid for Ecuador after earthquake of April 16, 2016 Beneficiary: Plan België Amount: 100.000 euro Duration: mei 2016 On 13 May 13 Minister-president Bourgeois decided to grant 100.000 euro emergency aid for people in Ecuador after the earthquake of April 16th. The money will be used to help Plan België to get the food supply up and going again in the hard-hit coastal province of Pichincha. The Flemish support will help about 250 families.

Project: Refugee camp Gawilan (Kurdish Iraq) Beneficiary: Rode Kruis Vlaanderen (Red Cross) Amount: 200.000 euro Duration: april 2016 In the refugee camp Gawilan in the autonomous Kurdish region in northern Iraq, near Erbil, live about 6,500 refugees from Syria. Minister-president Bourgeois makes 200.000 euros available to the Red Cross for the direct support ("cash transfers") of 967 vulnerable families. The Flemish aid is part of a larger project of the International Red Cross, accounting for 4.2 million euros.

Project: emergency aid after floods in Malawi and Mozambique Beneficiary: Malawi Humanitarian Emergency Response Fund (HERF) and One Programme UN Amount: 329.000 euro Duration: February 2015 In recent weeks heavy rainfall has caused severe flooding in Mozambique and Malawi. In Mozambique the provinces of Zambézia and Nampula are affected the worst. It is feared that at least 200,000 people will soon feel the effects of the food shortage. In Malawi especially the southern districts of Nsanje, Chikwawa, Phalombe and Zomba are affected.

Project: emergency aid for food crisis in Malawi Beneficiary: World Food Programme Amount: 208.149 euro Duration: 2015 - 2016 In Malawi an estimated 2.8 million people are threated by a food shortage will be through the combination of floods and severe drought caused by a severe El Niño, a climate phenomenon that is caused by an abnormal warming of the seawater in the eastern tropical Pacific. Together with the international community, the Malawian government addresses this situation with a national action plan.

Partner: Government of South Africa - National Treasury with support of the Bertha Centre of the Universiteit of Cape Town Grant: 1.250.041 euro Duration: start in 2017 (3,5 years) The National Treasury of South Africa joins forces with the Bertha Centre of the University of Cape Town to test a new financing model for public contracts. In outcomes-based contracts the government no longer pays for the implementation of activities but only for the actual impact in the field, like for instance the Social Impact Bond.
