Project: Agribusiness Development Academy Programme in Limpopo Duration: 2007-2014 Budget: 7.500.000 This programme aims to provide support to new landowners and small to medium-sized entrepreneurs in the agricultural sector, in the context of the land reforms. For many years now, the land reform programme has been one of the most important large-scale initiatives of the South African Government. As a result of the land reform; small and medium-sized agricultural holdings have come into the hands of a group of new landowners.

Project: Public procurement and the social economy Partner: International Labour Organisation Duration: 2012-2013 Budget: 630.000 euro This programme wants to examine and test possibilities for using public procurement to stimulate the social economy in South Africa. Unemployment is a huge problem in South Africa. The unemployment rate among young people aged between 16 and 30 exceeds 40%.

Project: Public and private procurement and the Social Economy Begunstigde: International Labour Organisation Periode: 01.01.2014 – 31.12.2016 (extended till 31.06.2017) Budget: 1.735.926 euro This programme of the International Labour Organization (ILO) seeks to support the social economy in South Africa through targeted use of public procurement. Unemployment is a huge problem in South Africa. The unemployment rate among young people aged between 16 and 30 exceeds 40%.

Project: Employment creation through small and medium scale enterprise development in Free State Partner: International Labour Organisation Duration: 2011-2014 Budget: 4.500.000 euro Free State Province is faced with an alarming unemployment rate, especially among young people. Many young people try their fortune as entrepreneur, but often lack the necessary skills and support to make their small businesses profitable.

Project: Partnerships for empowered entrepreneurs representation in South Africa Partner: Trias vzw Budget: 900.000 euro Duration: 24.12.2012 – 23.12.2015 Despite its improving economy, South Africa is still having difficulty in creating jobs. The South African Government has made a clear choice to invest strongly in employment and is looking at the private sector, among others, for support. The large companies and the public sector alone do not succeed in providing an answer to the growing unemployment.

Project: Partnerships for empowered entrepreneurs representation Partner: Trias vzw Budget: €1.000.000 Duration: 01.01.2016 – 31.12.2018 The project aims to help fight poverty and improve living conditions in South Africa by increasing the chances of success of SMEs in the townships.

Project: Support for the expension of the IDC Social Enterprise Fund Duration: 01.04.2014 – 31.03.2016 (extended till 31.03.2018) Budget: 4.000.000 euro With this grant Flanders develops the Industrial Development Corporation Social Enterprise Fund. Through this fund environment-friendly companies are supported which have a large social impact on local communities. It primarily deals with the issue of high unemployment. Only 40% of the active working population has a job (OECD, March 2013). Also, 51% of the young people are unemployed, which is even more alarming.

Project: SA Land Observatory, a platform for supporting evidence-based and participatory decision making on land in South Africa Partner: University of Pretoria Budget: 406.450 euro Duration: 01.10.2014 – 31.09.2017 In 1994 South Africa introduced far-reaching and fundamental land and agricultural reforms. After twenty years the time has come to draw lessons from this. However, the country has insufficient data and analyses at its disposal, which in addition are not or hardly available.

Project: Technical and Management Support Project  Partner: Government of South Africa - National Treasury Budget: 2.000.000 euro Duration: 01.02.2012 – 31.12.2016 (extended till 30.06.2017) With this project the National Treasury of South Africa will offer additional support to the official development programme between Flanders and South Africa. This programme has been laid down in the Country Strategy Paper 2012-2016. Both governments agreed to focus on two sectors, i.e.

Project: Building a policy framework for social economy in South Africa Partner: Economic Development Department of South Africa and the International Labour Organisation Budget: 1.324.367 euro Duration: 2017-2020 Flanders supports the Economic Development Department of South Africa in the development of a policy framework for social economy. The sector is developing fast in South Africa. It is an economy that offers innovative solutions to social challenges and aims for an inclusive, sustainable and social society.

Project: Social enterprise eco-system support  Partner: Bertha Centre for Social Innovation & Entrepreneurship (University of Cape Town) Duration: 01.01.2015 – 31.12.2017 Budget: €1.000.000 This project was submitted by Cape Town University on behalf of the Bertha Centre for Social Innovation and Entrepreneurship (hereafter abbreviated as Bertha Centre). It seeks to improve the climate for social enterprises so as to allow them to achieve better results and create decent jobs. The Bertha Centre wants to realise this by supporting an eco-system which is based on 4 key goals: 1.

Project: Strengthening knowledge sharing partnerships for effective adaptation to climatic variability and change in South Africa Partner: Environmental Monitoring Group Budget: €420.000 Duration: 01.01.2015 – 31.12.2017 Around the world we are faced with climate change effects, like temperature increases and climate-related disasters like flooding and draught.

Project: Grant for organisation Guest of Honor at Frankfurter Buchmesse Beneficiary: Flemish Literature Fund Amount: 400.000 euro Duration: October 2016 In 2016, Flanders and the Netherlands presented jointly the Frankfurter Buchmesse, the largest and most important literary fair in the world. They do this under the motto "this is what we share.

Project: Statue of John McCrae unveiled in Ottawa Beneficiary: Royal Canadian Artillery Heritage Trust  Amount: 50.000 CAD Duration: May 2015 On Sunday, May 3rd in the Canadian capital Ottawa a statue was unveiled to commemorate the Canadian military physician John McCrae (1872-1918). John McCrae fought during World War I as a volunteer with the Allied Forces and was stationed near Ypres. There he wrote in early May 1915 the famous poem "In Flanders Fields" in memory of his fallen friend, former student and fellow soldier Lt. Alex Helmer.

Project: Memorial Garden - Flanders Fields Memorial Garden in Canberra Beneficiary: Australian War Memorial Amount: 200.000 euro Duration: opening in April 2017 In April 2017 the Australian War Memorial officially opened the Flanders Fields Memorial Garden. The memorial gardens abroad help to ensure international attention for Flanders Fields and Flanders as peace destination after 2018. The memorial gardens honor and commemorate everyone who fought and died during the war.

Project: Commemorating 100 years Battle of Messines Beneficiary: Municipality Heuvelland Amount: 49.775 euro Duration: June 10, 2017 During the Battle on June 7, 1917 the British army left 19 mines explode under the ridge around and around Mesen / Wijtschate. The Second Battle of Messines went down in history as the worst military explosion until the atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki in 1945 and changed the landscape around Heuvelland and Messines final.

Project: Commemoration Battle of Messines  Beneficiary: City Messines Amount: 60.000 euros Duration: June 7, 2017 On Wednesday, June 7, 2017 it will be exactly 100 years ago that 19 mines exploded under the German positions and thus heralded the start of the infamous Battle of Messines. The explosions resulted in gigantic craters, which are still visible in Messines, Ypres and Heuvelland. Several monuments and cemeteries in the region refer to this historical battle. 100 years later, these historical events are commemorated internationally.

Project: coordination of local and international media and journalists' organizations in countries on Europe's external borders in the east and in the MENA region  Beneficiary: Global Forum for Media Development Amount: 100.000 euro Duration: 2016 With the support received from the Government of Flanders in 2016, amounting to 100,000 euros, GFMD seeks to intensify its efforts in the coordination of local and international media and journalists' organizations in countries on Europe's external borders in the east and in the MENA region.  Media freedom and present objective media are crucial

Project: organization of academic summit between the EU and the CELAC countries Beneficiary: vzw Local Organizing Committee Amount: 20.000 euro Duration: 2015 Grant to the non-profit Local Organizing Committee in charge of organizing an academic summit between the EU and the countries CELAC (Comunidad de Estados Latinoamericanos Caribeños y).

Duration: 2015-2016 Budget: 250.000€ According to data from the Mozambique National Health Institute (INS) the HIV prevalence in Mozambican girls is three times as high as in boys. Due to gender inequality and a limited possibility to protect the position of women at policy level, women's rights are frequently violated.
