Project: Support for the expension of the IDC Social Enterprise Fund Duration: 01.04.2014 – 31.03.2016 (extended till 31.03.2018) Budget: 4.000.000 euro With this grant Flanders develops the Industrial Development Corporation Social Enterprise Fund. Through this fund environment-friendly companies are supported which have a large social impact on local communities. It primarily deals with the issue of high unemployment. Only 40% of the active working population has a job (OECD, March 2013). Also, 51% of the young people are unemployed, which is even more alarming.

Project: Statue of John McCrae unveiled in Ottawa Beneficiary: Royal Canadian Artillery Heritage Trust Amount: 50.000 CAD Duration: May 2015 On Sunday, May 3rd in the Canadian capital Ottawa a statue was unveiled to commemorate the Canadian military physician John McCrae (1872-1918). John McCrae fought during World War I as a volunteer with the Allied Forces and was stationed near Ypres. There he wrote in early May 1915 the famous poem "In Flanders Fields" in memory of his fallen friend, former student and fellow soldier Lt. Alex Helmer.

Commemoration 'Battle of Messines' (2017)
Project: Commemoration Battle of Messines Beneficiary: City Messines Amount: 60.000 euros Duration: June 7, 2017 On Wednesday, June 7, 2017 it will be exactly 100 years ago that 19 mines exploded under the German positions and thus heralded the start of the infamous Battle of Messines. The explosions resulted in gigantic craters, which are still visible in Messines, Ypres and Heuvelland. Several monuments and cemeteries in the region refer to this historical battle. 100 years later, these historical events are commemorated internationally.
