Grant for supporting the refugee camp Gawilan, Kurdish Iraq 2016
Project: Refugee camp Gawilan (Kurdish Iraq) Beneficiary: Rode Kruis Vlaanderen (Red Cross) Amount: 200.000 euro Duration: april 2016 In the refugee camp Gawilan in the autonomous Kurdish region in northern Iraq, near Erbil, live about 6,500 refugees from Syria. Minister-president Bourgeois makes 200.000 euros available to the Red Cross for the direct support ("cash transfers") of 967 vulnerable families. The Flemish aid is part of a larger project of the International Red Cross, accounting for 4.2 million euros.

Summary: The EU-Iraq Partnership and Cooperation Agreement will mark the first ever contractual relation between the EU and Iraq. Grant for emergency aid refugees of Mosul 2016
Project: Emergency aid for the refugees of Mosul, Iraq) Beneficiary: UNHCR Amount: 350.000 euro Duration: november 2016 The Government of Flanders approved a grant of 350,000 euros to UNHCR for the refugees from Mosul. Mosul is the third largest city in Iraq and located just across the border of the Kurdish Autonomous Region in Iraq. Since 2014, Mosul is controlled by Islamic State (IS). The Kurdish population but also a significant Christian minority in the city were largely persecuted and expelled.

Project: Strengthening human rights, citizenship, intercultural and other standards in the curriculum of public education in Iraqi Kurdistan Beneficiary: Human Rights Office (OHCHR/UNAMI HRO) Amount: 114.017 euro Duration: 2016 Minister-president Bourgeois decided during his official visit to Iraqi Kurdistan in April 2016 to support the project "Human Rights Education in Schools". The goal of this project is to strengthen human rights, citizenship, intercultural and other standards in the curriculum of public education in Iraqi Kurdistan.

Project: PLATO Iraqi Kurdistan project Beneficiary: Voka Antwerpen-Waasland Budget: 120.000 euro Duration: 24 months Voka – Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Antwerpen-Waasland – wants to exchange its expertise in PLATO projects with experts from Iraqi Kurdistan to strengthen SMEs in their economic ambitions. The PLATO project is a Voka sponsorship project that provides support and guidance to companies based on three pillars: information transfer, experience exchange and networking.

Grant for the protection of heritage of religious interest in Iraq, 2018
Project: Protection of heritage of religious interest as a tool for reconciliation (Iraq) Beneficiary: UNESCO Amount: 250.000 USD Duration: 2018 – 2019 In the aftermath of the ISIS/Daesh occupation of Northern parts of Iraq, there is a need for mapping the damage they have done to religious heritage in a systematic manner. Unesco aims in this project to devise a methodology for this and to use it for a comprehensive assessment of the damage and needs. Following that assessment the results will be published and distributed through scientific community and the public at large.
