"Human Resources for Health" (WHO) Mozambique (2005)
Project: increasing the number of available health personnel in Mozambique Beneficiary: WHO Duration: 2005-2011 Budget: 587.600 euro The Human Resources for Health programme (HRH) of the World Health Organisation (WHO) aims to reinforce the Mozambican Ministry of Health. By doing so, the WHO gears towards increasing the number of available health personnel, in order to offer better health services to the community. With its 0.03 doctors and 0.21 nurses per 1000 people, Mozambique has one of the lowest densities of health workers in Africa.

Agroforestry - CATS Banks Project (ICRAF) 2010
Duration: 2010-2013 Budget: 319.709,77 euro Through this agroforestry project the World Agroforestry Centre (ICRAF) will develop a sustainable, cost-efficient way to contribute to greater food security and poverty reduction for millions of farming families in Sub-Saharan Africa. Duration and budget In 2010, a grant of 319,709.77 euros was allocated to the project "Community Agroforestry Tree Seeds Banks (CATS Banks): Building Agroforestry Scaling up Platform for Diversifying Livelihoods Opportunity in Malawi and Mozambique".

Project: strengthening the Mozambican technical education by supporting the building of instruction rooms Beneficiary: Society of the Salesians of Don Bosco Duration: 2009-2011 Budget: 1.800.000 euro At the end of the Mozambican civil war, the Salesian society, among others, devoted itself to help develop the country’s technical education. In 1994, a Salesian network for professional education was created (“Rede Salesiana de Formaçao Profissional em Moçambique”).

Cooperation agreement between Flanders and the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) 2012 - 2014
Duration: 2012-2014 Budget: 3.000.000 In 2011, the Government of Flanders decided to extend the aid to the World Food Programme (WFP) structurally. Since 2008, the Government of Flanders has already granted specific support to the country programmes of WFP in Malawi and Mozambique. The current aid covers the period from 2012 to 2014. Duration and budget The contribution for the period 2012 to 2014 amounts to three million euros. Problem definition Between 2007 and 2009, the number of undernourished people rose sharply, reaching the sad peak of more than one billion people in 2009.

Country Strategy Paper Mozambique 2016-2020
On 21 April 2016, the Country Strategy Paper (CSP) for Development Cooperation between Flanders and Mozambique was approved by the Government of Flanders. The health sector will remain at the heart of cooperation with Mozambique; the Government of Flanders aims to commit annually € 5 million to this cooperation. However, both governments have agreed to place an additional focus on adolescents (10 – 19 years) and more specifically on adolescent girls, as Mozambican teenage girls are very vulnerable in terms of sexual and reproductive health and rights.

Project: a financial expert for MISAU to improve the dialogue between the Ministry and the donors Beneficiary: The Belgian Technical Cooperation (BTC) Duration: 2013-2014 Budget: 358.323 euro The Government of Flanders decided to make a contribution towards BTC (Belgian Technical Cooperation) for the project “Focussed contribution to the health system strengthening of Mozambique”. With this support, a financial expert will be able to assist the working group administration and finances (GTAF) within the SWAp in the health sector.

Project: Health, Education and Adolescents Rights in Mozambique Beneficiary: Ariel Glader Foundation and União a Vida Amount: 880 366 euro Duration: 2020 - 2023 Strengthen the health system and its human capacity, and the service and development of education and health programs, both with strong involvement of adolescents. Via a mobile “adolescent-friendly” health service, both health workers are trained and direct health services are offered.

Grant for a baseline study on first aid activities in Southern Africa, 2013
Partner: Belgian Red Cross - Flanders Duration: 2013-2014 Budget: 147.840 euro The Belgian Red Cross - Flanders intends to strengthen the first aid activities of 10 national committees in southern Africa (Angola, Botswana, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa, Swaziland, Zambia and Zimbabwe) via the International Red Cross. In order to bring this to a successful end, however, the idea is to carry out a baseline study first. For this purpose, the needs, legislative frameworks, policy plans and ongoing activities of each of the different countries will be recorded.
