Quebec Minister Thériault learns about Flemish approach (de)radicalization

On March the 12th Minister-president Geert Bourgeois received the Deputy Premier of Québec, Mrs. Lise Thériault. She is also Minister of Public Safety. The meeting took place in the recently renovated castle of Viron, also the town hall of Dilbeek.

The main topic of the meeting was (de)radicalization. This phenomenon appears also in Québec (and Canada). During her ten-day trip to Europe Deputy Premier Thériault met with representatives of the Belgian federal government and of the regions. She also paid visits to Vilvoorde and Antwerp, where she spoke with the mayors Hans Bonte and Bart De Wever as well as with security advisors and police forces.

Minister-president Bourgeois informed the Deputy Premier about the concept  paper “Prevention of Radicalization Processes that can lead to Extremism and Terrorism” of the government. This paper was prepared by Minister Liesbeth Homans. Both governments agreed to continue talks about this subject.
