Romania and the Great War
On 4 December Romanian ambassador Stefan Tinca and secretary-general Koen Verlaeckt opened the exposition 'the Romanians and the Great War' at the offices of the Flemish administration in Brussels, with the ambassador speeching in fluent Dutch.
General historiography of the Great War and a large part of the remembrance activities focus on the Western Front, but we shouldn't forget that the war caused a lot of suffering and dammage in the east as well. Romania tried to remain outside the conflict but couldn't avoid being drawn in.
30 pictures show the chronology of events that lay at the roots of Romania's involvement in the Great War. This unique photographic material and the accompanying texts open a window on a part of the past that has remained largely unknown to most visitors.
