Strengthening cultural cooperation with Hauts-de-France
On 25 January Flemish Culture Minister Sven Gatz and the Vice-President of Hauts-de-France in charge of Culture, François Decoster signed the agreement for cultural cooperation between Flanders and the northern French region of Hauts-de-France.
The objectives of the cooperation are threefold: to promote the exchange and mobility of cultural actors from both areas; cross border support for emerging talent; and political cooperation on culture in European programs. For this purpose, Flanders and Hauts-de-France provide a yearly joint budget of 110,000 euros.
Minister Sven Gatz: "The French region of Hauts-de-France and Flanders are already strongly interwoven historically, socio-economically and culturally. The new agreement, will strengthen the existing cultural cooperation and bring about new initiatives. "
Vice-president François Decoster, also mayor of Saint-Omer: "This agreement changes the border between our two regions into a connecting factor of converging ambitions of Hauts-de-France and the Flemish Community."
