Successful port mission in Chile

  • November 19, 2015

On the final day of the port mission to Brazil and Chile, the ports of Antwerp and Zeebrugge announced that they will start, for the first time in history, with a commercial cooperation. The cooperation concerns the deep sea container sector. Minister Weyts is delighted and hopes more joint initiatives will follow.

This new commercial partnership fits perfectly in the government's strategy to promote Flanders as one port area. This was the aim of the mission, promoting the ports of Antwerp, Zeebrugge, Ghent and Ostend - and alongside harbor companies, SMEs and Flemish export multinationals. An important point in the foreign policy of the Government is the promotion of the Flemish (sea) ports as “Flanders Port Area” and increasing the market share of the ports.

In Chile minister Weyts met with the Chilean Minister of Transport, Andrés Gómez-Lobo and had an extensive visit to Puerto Valparaiso, the biggest port in Chile.

The port mission was led by Minister Weyts and was organized by Flanders International Technical Agency, Department of Mobility and Public Works, VOKA and Flanders Investment and Trade.
