Ties with North Rhine-Westphalia strengthened

  • September 25, 2015

On September 23 and 24, a parliamentary delegation from North Rhine-Westphalia paid a two-day visit to Flanders. The Vice-President of the North Rhine-Westphalia Landtag, Mr. Eckhard Uhlenberg, led the delegation.

The visit started in Limburg. Deputy Inge Moors gave a detailed explanation of the economic and innovation policy of the province. Afterwards the delegation visited BioVille, the incubator of the life sciences in Diepenbeek.

In the presence of the new German ambassador to our country, Rüdiger Lüdeking, the delegation was received by the Vice-President of the Flemish Parliament, Peter van Rompuy, and a dozen members of the Commission for Mobility and Public Works. The Flemish and German MPs discussed the Iron Rhine, the toll for trucks and cars and large infrastructure projects.

The General Representative of the Government of Flanders in Berlin, who accompanied the delegation, was very satisfied with the visit. Because of the priority given to North Rhine Westphalia in the foreign policy of the Government of Flanders, the dialogue between both parliaments is very important.
