  • July 10, 2015

On July 9, for the 30,000th time the Last Post was performed at the Menin Gate in Ypres. This salute to the fallen soldiers started in 1928 and is still blown every evening by the buglers of the Ypres fire brigade.

On the occasion of the 30,000th Last Post, a special and worldwide programme was setup. All over the world, fire brigades honoured fallen soldiers by performing the Last Post. So clarion call echoed at several places in Britain, such as Westminster Abbey and the Royal Hospital Chelsea in the presence of the British Prince Edward, Duke of Kent. But also in Canada, New Zealand, Australia and India.

In Berlin a ceremony was organized at the Neue Wache, Central Memorial of the Federal Republic of Germany for the Victims of War and Tyranny, by the Belgian Ambassador Ghislain D’hoop and General Representative of the Government of Flanders Koen Haverbeke. German President Joachim Gauck and the Chairman of the Flemish Parliament Jan Peumans attended the ceremony.
