On the 6th of February, the United Nations Working Group of Experts on People of African Descent paid a visit to the city of Antwerp. The Working Group was received by alderman Jinnih Beels and was introduced to several projects on Atlas, the integration programme of Antwerp.
The Working Group was established by the Commission on Human Rights of the United Nations. The delegation looked into good practices and gaps in protecting the human rights of people of African descent.
The visit included a visit to Antwerp, Brussels, Liège, Namur and Charleroi. They met representatives of the Government, civil society organisations and people of African descent. The delegation has been received by the administration of Minister Hilde Crevits and Jan Peumans, Chairman of the Flemish Parliament. The group also had a meeting with the Agency for Local and Provincial Government.
A report including conclusions and recommendations to the Commission on Human Rights will be published in September 2019.
